When Dawn Breaks Too Early: What Helped Your Baby Sleep Longer?

Hey Evo moms,

Let’s talk about something that still haunts my sleep sometimes: the dreaded early morning wake-up. You know the drill – baby’s asleep, you’re finally getting some decent rest, and then BAM! It’s 5:15 AM and they’re up for the day, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to party. Meanwhile, I’m just trying to remember what day it is.

With my little one, those early starts were tough. For a while, it felt like no matter what we did – pushing bedtime, pulling bedtime, adjusting nap lengths, making the room darker than a black hole – nothing worked. We experimented with wake windows, tried feeding him right before bed, even subtly adjusted the sound machine volume (desperate times!). Eventually, we started seeing some tiny shifts, but it was a long game of trial and error.

It’s easy to feel like you’re doing something wrong when your baby consistently wakes before the sun, especially when all the ‘experts’ say they should be sleeping until 6 or 7 AM. But I’ve learned that every baby is different, and sometimes it’s about finding that one small tweak that makes a big difference.

So, for all the moms out there navigating this, what’s been your experience with early morning wakings? Did you find any “magic bullets” or even just small, practical adjustments that helped your baby sleep a little bit longer into the morning? I’m genuinely curious to hear what’s worked for your family!

Reviving this because early mornings are a constant struggle for many! For us, making the room absolutely pitch black with blackout blinds, even during naps, made a noticeable difference. Also, checking for any hidden light sources like electronics helped.
