Crafting a Calming Bedtime Routine: What's Your Secret Sauce?

A predictable bedtime routine can be a game-changer for signaling to your baby that sleep is coming. It helps them wind down, feel secure, and often leads to an easier transition into their crib or bassinet.

There’s no one-size-fits-all, but common elements include a warm bath, a gentle massage, a quiet story, a lullaby, and a final feed. The key is to keep it consistent and calm, starting about 20-30 minutes before you want them to be asleep.

What does your bedtime routine look like? Are there any specific activities, songs, or tools (like special books or dimmers) that are absolute must-haves for your family?

Our routine is pretty simple but effective: bath, pajamas, a quick baby massage with lavender lotion, bottle, two short stories, then into the crib with white noise. We dim the lights in their room about 30 minutes before bath time to start the winding down process. Consistency really is magic!

We swear by the ‘magic sleep suit’ for our 6-month-old! After a warm bath, we do a gentle stretch (baby yoga!), read the same two books every night, a final feed, then into the sleep suit and bassinet. The familiar sequence and the comfort of the suit make a huge difference.
